Use the information centers around the country for free advice. There you will not only be welcomed with warm cup of coffee but you will also meet knowledgeable staff that will assist you in many ways – for free. Hiking, swimming, sightseeing or just what is happening in the neighborhood they will tell you and they will also point you the cheapest way if you just ask for it.
Use public swimming pools, they are cheap and all around the country. Plus being inexpensive you also get to meet the local people there and even participate in steamy conversation about the major world problems and how to solve it with wise Icelandic men and women ( in their opinion! ).
