There is many ways to make sure you can go longer for less

You can choose from renting a campervan or just drive around with your tent.   But in both instances then there are few things that can help to make the Icelandic Krona last a little bit longer.

  • Get a discount card/token from the Gas station company of choice.  Better campervan rental offer this for free with the rent but you can also get info on this at the next gas station.  You can also check out the websites of the main fuel companies ( www.olis.iswww.n1.iswww.atlantsolia.is and www.skeljungur.is).   This will give you good discount and in some instances access to toilette etc.

  • Do your grocery shopping at a low cost retailer,  we do have two that you can find more or less all around the country.  Bonus and Kronan.  Just remember to check the opening hours as they may differ form place to place and plan few days in advance.
  • Get coupons for discounts,  you might want to check out Icelandic Coupons to see if some of the discounts in there are for you.  Have a look online before you decide ( www.coupons.is)
  • Wine, beer and spirits.   If you plan to enjoy any alcohol during your Iceland visit then we suggest you purchase it at the duty free store at the airport as this will save you up to 30%.  There are Wineshops (the Icelandic governmental owned alcohol shops) around the country in the case you run out of the cheaper duty free booze, see www.vinbudin.is for the opening hours and location.

  • Use the information centers around the country for free advice.  There you will not only be welcomed with warm cup of coffee but you will also meet knowledgeable staff that will assist you in many ways – for free.  Hiking, swimming, sightseeing or just what is happening in the neighborhood they will tell you and they will also point you the cheapest way if you just ask for it.
  • Use public swimming pools,  they are cheap and all around the country.  Plus being inexpensive you also get to meet the local people there and even participate in steamy conversation about the major world problems and how to solve it with wise Icelandic men and women ( in their opinion! ).  Here you find further info on public swimming pools.

So enjoy your camping adventure in Iceland and go further for less.
